Yes, you can hold an Anand Karaj at a resort in Mexico or the Caribbean — but almost nothing on a destination-wedding website is describing the venue you actually need. The Anand Karaj is an indoor ceremony, held in the morning, with the sangat seated on the floor in the presence of the Guru Granth Sahib, in a room where shoes come off at the door, heads are covered, and no alcohol, meat or tobacco comes in. That one requirement reorders the entire shortlist. You are not shopping for a beach gazebo at sunset. You are shopping for a ballroom you can hold clean for a morning.<\/p>\n

Below is what our resort directory actually publishes about indoor ceremony space, which properties can seat a Sikh ceremony properly, what no resort in the directory provides, and the one real published price for a South Asian package.<\/p>\n

Why the beach gazebo is the wrong room<\/h2>\n

Every all-inclusive sells the same image: white chairs, an arch, the ocean behind you, late afternoon light. It is a beautiful ceremony and it is the wrong shape for an Anand Karaj.<\/p>\n

Sand does not take floor seating. There is no way to keep a public beach free of passing guests with drinks in hand. There is no roof, and the Guru Granth Sahib should not be installed under an open sky at the mercy of a squall — which on the Caribbean coast is a genuine afternoon possibility from June through October. And the hour is wrong: the Anand Karaj is traditionally completed in the morning, while resort ceremony slots default to 4pm or 5pm because that is when the light is good for photographs.<\/p>\n

None of that makes a destination Anand Karaj difficult. It just means the venue conversation starts with the ballroom, and the beach becomes where you hold the reception, the sangeet, or a separate symbolic ceremony for guests who want the postcard.<\/p>\n

There is a practical bonus in this. A morning ceremony leaves the ballroom free to be reset during the afternoon and used again that evening. One room, two events, and one setup conversation instead of two.<\/p>\n

Which resorts publish an indoor room you could actually use?<\/h2>\n

Read that fourth column carefully, because it is the thing that catches people out.<\/p>\n

A ballroom listed “reception, cocktail” is not a ceremony room<\/h2>\n

Resorts publish, venue by venue, which events a space is offered for. The distinction is easy to skim past and it matters enormously here, because the Anand Karaj is<\/em> the indoor event.<\/p>\n

Dreams Sapphire is the clearest example. Its largest indoor space, simply called the Ballroom, publishes a 300-guest capacity — but only for cocktails and receptions. There is no ceremony line on it. Its Vista del Mar Indoor room is the same: cocktail and reception only. The room at that property published for an indoor ceremony<\/em> is the Indigo Ballroom, and that caps at 80 guests. So a 150-person Sikh wedding at Dreams Sapphire is not a matter of picking the big ballroom; it is a conversation the coordinator has to open with the hotel.<\/p>\n

Dreams Vallarta Bay is the starker case. It runs one of the better South Asian packages in the directory — five events, a four-hour sangeet and mehndi, a baraat — and its only indoor space, the Salon, is published for receptions only. On the Pacific side, that is worth knowing before you fall in love with the property.<\/p>\n

None of this means the answer is no. Published use lists describe what a resort routinely sells, not the limit of what it will do. It means you ask the question in writing, early, and you get the room named in the contract.<\/p>\n

What no resort provides — and what to settle before you sign<\/h2>\n

Here is the honest part, and it is the part every “top 10 Sikh destination wedding venues” article skips.<\/p>\n

Not one resort in our directory publishes anything about the Guru Granth Sahib, a palki sahib, a granthi, or langar.<\/strong> One listing — Hyatt Ziva & Zilara Cap Cana — names a coordinator experienced in Sikh traditions. That is the sum total of what is advertised across the entire directory. Everything else on the South Asian side is built to a Hindu shape: the mandap is the centrepiece of every one of these packages, and an Anand Karaj has no mandap and no agni.<\/p>\n

So the saroop and the granthi come from your own sangat, arranged by your family through your gurdwara, exactly as they would be for a wedding at home. The resort’s job is narrower and entirely doable: the room, the hour, and the food. These are the five things to get agreed in writing before you sign anything.<\/p>\n

  1. A private indoor room held from early morning<\/strong> — typically from around 7am, with the setup done the evening before rather than on the morning itself.<\/li>\n
  2. No bar service and no meat in that room<\/strong> for the duration. At an all-inclusive this is a real ask, because open bar is inside the package and there is a bar in nearly every space. Suspending service in one room for one morning is straightforward — but no coordinator will think of it unless you say it.<\/li>\n
  3. A separate, securable room where the Guru Granth Sahib rests overnight<\/strong>, undisturbed, with access for whoever is attending it. This is a rooms conversation, not a wedding-package one, and it is the single most commonly forgotten item.<\/li>\n
  4. Shoe storage and head coverings at the door<\/strong> — a table, a staff member who understands why, and enough rumal for guests who arrive without one.<\/li>\n
  5. A vegetarian meal immediately after<\/strong>, in an adjacent space, served to everyone. Four properties publish Indian catering with vegetarian options, which makes this a menu conversation rather than an outside-vendor one.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    And one negotiation point worth naming: if you are buying a package whose headline inclusion is a decorated mandap, ask what that line becomes. Floor seating, the canopy and rumala over the palki, and the room itself are the equivalent spend. It is a fair swap and coordinators will make it — but only if it is raised before the contract, not after.<\/p>\n

    The baraat is the part the resorts are genuinely good at<\/h2>\n

    Eight properties in our directory publish baraat provision, and it is consistently the best-supported South Asian element they sell. Hyatt Ziva & Zilara Cap Cana and Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall both publish the groom’s arrival by horse or vehicle. Dreams Sapphire publishes a baraat procession inside its Dulha & Dulhan package. Dreams Macao and Dreams Vallarta Bay both publish the baraat as a named event in a multi-day structure, with the sangeet and mehndi timed at four hours.<\/p>\n

    Dhol is the usual gap. Hyatt Ziva & Zilara Cap Cana publishes dhol player coordination; most do not, and a resort DJ is not a substitute for a dholi at a milni. Ask early, because in Mexico and the Dominican Republic this is normally a flown-in or regionally sourced vendor, and the lead time is the constraint rather than the cost.<\/p>\n

    What does it cost?<\/h2>\n

    One property in our directory publishes an actual price for a South Asian package: Dreams Sapphire’s Dulha & Dulhan at $9,099 for up to 79 guests<\/strong>, then $219 per additional guest. It covers multiple events across several days — mehndi, sangeet and garba setup, the baraat, the ceremony, and a reception with traditional cuisine.<\/p>\n

    Because that base is flat to 79 guests, the per-head arithmetic runs the opposite way to most people’s instinct. At 79 guests it works out at roughly $115 a head<\/strong>. At 40 guests it is the same $9,099 — about $227 a head<\/strong>. Bringing more people to a destination wedding usually makes it cheaper per person, not more expensive, and that is before the room block, where volume is what earns the concessions.<\/p>\n

    Two qualifiers apply to that figure and to every published resort price. It is pre-tax<\/strong> — Mexico commonly adds roughly 16% tax plus a 15% service charge, so call the all-in nearer $11,900<\/strong>. And it is midweek<\/strong>; a Saturday costs more, so ask what your actual date costs rather than assuming.<\/p>\n

    The honest caveat: Dulha & Dulhan is built around a mandap. For an Anand Karaj, treat that number as the right order of magnitude for a multi-day South Asian wedding at that tier, not as a quote for your ceremony. Day one:<\/strong> welcome cocktail in the evening, on a terrace or the beach — nearly every property publishes a one-hour welcome event.     Will the marriage be legal at home?<\/h2>\n

    The Anand Karaj is a religious ceremony. It does not, by itself, create a civil marriage recognised in the US, Canada or the UK. Most couples we plan for handle the legal registration at home — before or after the trip — and treat the destination ceremony as the wedding. A civil ceremony is also available on site at these resorts if you want one; the judge comes to you, and the document requirements differ by state and by country.     Can you actually have an Anand Karaj at an all-inclusive resort?<\/h3>\n

    Yes. What you need is an indoor room the resort will hold privately for a morning, free of alcohol and meat, with floor seating, plus a secure space for the Guru Granth Sahib. Families normally arrange the granthi and the saroop through their own gurdwara or community.<\/p>\n

    How do you handle alcohol when it is included in the package?<\/h3>\n

    You ask the coordinator to suspend bar service in the ceremony room, and you put it in writing. It is a normal request and it is granted routinely — but because open bar is a headline inclusion, nobody at the resort will raise it for you. The rest of the property carries on as usual; only the darbar space is held.<\/p>\n

    Can we still have a beach ceremony?<\/h3>\n

    Many of our couples do both — the Anand Karaj indoors in the morning, and a symbolic ceremony or the reception on the beach later. It is the cleanest way to honour the ceremony properly and still get the setting everyone travelled for. It usually costs less than you would expect, because the second event is a setup rather than a second package.<\/p>\n

    Is langar possible?<\/h3>\n

    No resort publishes langar as such. What is achievable is a vegetarian meal served to everyone immediately after the ceremony in an adjacent space, which is what most destination Anand Karaj couples arrange. Four properties in the table publish Indian catering with vegetarian menus, which keeps it in-house rather than needing an outside vendor and its fee.<\/p>\n

    How many guests can we bring?<\/h3>\n

    Indoor ceremony capacity is the binding constraint, not the resort’s overall size.     How far ahead should we book?<\/h3>\n

    Twelve to eighteen months is ideal for a multi-day Sikh wedding, because you are holding a room block, an indoor room across three days and often a flown-in dholi. Six months is a workable minimum. We have planned weddings on a few months’ notice, but the ballroom is the piece that goes first.<\/p>\n
