TELL US ABOUT YOUR PROPOSAL!
Our proposal was as low-key as we’re! Doug and I had dated for the reason that fall of 2010. Through the pandemic, we actually solidified our bond and decided that we each desired to be one another’s “without end bear.”
We’ve each been really busy people for many of our relationship. First, I used to be pursuing my doctoral degree in molecular biology, then once I graduated, we each were working full time jobs. Doug was also pursuing his music along with his original band (he’s a drummer) while I taught group fitness classes (kickboxing) within the evenings after work. We even have a canopy band named UltraViolet — or simply UV to those that know us, that may have gigs nearly every weekend around Buffalo.
When the pandemic forced us to decelerate and stop all our extracurriculars, we actually cherished the newfound beyond regular time we had for one another every weekend — and Doug proposed one seemingly regular Saturday morning in September of 2020.
We had been lying in bed for an hour or so cuddling after we woke up, and he couldn’t wait any longer — apparently, the ring was burning a hole in his pocket! He got down on one knee, recited just a little poem he had written for me and asked me to marry him.

WHAT WAS THE MOST SPECIAL MEMORY FROM THE DAY?
The whole lot about our wedding day was special. Our venues were each historic sites in Buffalo, Latest York— the ceremony took place outside on the Buffalo Botanical Gardens. Our reception took place on the Hotel on the Lafayette in downtown Buffalo, a historical landmark built by America’s first skilled female architect, Louise Blanchard Bethune, in 1904.
Our non-religious ceremony was performed by my cousin and was all the things we could have hoped for and more — special, funny, witty and totally personalized to us! We had a few unique poetry readings and even a surprise reading of some Bee Gees song lyrics!
Our first look moment, our photo sessions before and after the ceremony and limo-ing around Buffalo with our bridal party was an excellent fun method to spend the primary half of the day.
The reception was a blast, as well — being surrounded by our family and friends in such a beautiful space. Probably the most special events of the reception was Doug and I playing a set with our band UltraViolet — it’s not day by day that the bride and groom are also the marriage band!
Lastly, we snuck away from the reception to do yet one more photo session within the private courtyard at our reception venue. While I hated to be away from our guests during this time, having a moment with Doug was a dream, and the photos from this turned out beautiful.

DESCRIBE YOUR BRIDAL STYLE. HOW DID YOU WANT TO LOOK ON YOUR WEDDING DAY? TELL US ABOUT YOUR DRESS SHOPPING EXPERIENCE.
My style is just not very formal, not very fancy. I like clothing that’s comfortable and light-weight. I like wearing things which have a straightforward, breezy kind of boho feel. Summer is my absolute favorite time, and I wanted a marriage dress that looked appropriate for our summer wedding.
I don’t like traditionally fancy or dressy looks, so I frolicked trying to search out something that may look beautiful and flattering but that also met all my criteria: no sequins, no beads and no glitter. I knew I wanted a nude dress with ivory lace over it. I didn’t need a plunging neckline or an A-line skirt, but I did need a train.
I used to be also hoping desperately to search out something with my favorite neckline — a crew neck or racer front and a low back.
My wedding dress shopping experience went well — I almost bought the primary dress that I attempted on at a distinct shop, but my mom was unable to come back together with me. I figured I’d try on dresses elsewhere so my mom and I could have the experience, after which I’d return and buy that initial dress. Thankfully, that’s not what happened!
While Googling, I got here across the All Who Wander jax gown. It met most of my criteria. I quickly searched what bridal shops near me carried All Who Wander gowns, found Bliss Bridal and made an appointment with them.
Once we arrived, I asked in the event that they happened to have the All Who Wander jax gown, and thru an odd accident, it had actually JUST arrived in store. I attempted it on and ordered it in my size on the spot.

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR WEDDING. WHAT WERE YOUR THEME AND COLORS? HOW DID YOU MAKE YOUR WEDDING PERSONAL TO YOUR LOVE STORY?
We didn’t have a selected theme or “colours” for our wedding. My bridesmaids wore dresses in “desert rose” chiffon. I wanted a hue that was not too pastel and never too pink. I assumed, who doesn’t love an excellent pinky nude? It’s universally flattering and appears summery.
Our decor for the ceremony and reception was mostly greenery. We took advantage of the luxurious scenery of our ceremony venue, Buffalo Botanical Gardens. Our florist, William’s Florist, created a ravishing greenery and floral arbor for us, in addition to greenery aisle markers.
Our place card holders were vintage pressed glass vases with a sprig of white wax flowers in each. The centerpieces were mismatched glass bud vases with greenery and vintage gold taper candles.
Our signage and card box were in gold and glass, and all of the signs I made were greenery inspired. The whole lot coordinated, but nothing matched, making a true effortlessly boho look.
We made our wedding special and private in some ways! My cousin wrote and officiated our ceremony for us. Our friend and groomsman, played live for our ceremony processionals and recessionals. One other friend and guitarist from our band was the emcee and DJ and even took video of the day for us.
Our toasts and speeches by our greatest man, maid of honor and my dad were awesome! We had a signature cocktail that felt very authentic to what we liked — an Old Maid: gin, lime, easy syrup, cucumber and mint.
Our entrance songs were very personal to us, as was our first dance song. As musicians, we didn’t go traditional for any of the musical elements — we rigorously chosen songs ourselves for cocktail hour, dinner and the DJ’d music following dinner. And essentially the most personal touch we added was having our band, UltraViolet (UV), play a set at our wedding.
Doug and I formed UV together back in 2012. Music was how we met, and although we pursue totally unrelated careers — I’m a university biology and chemistry professor — music was something that we’ve all the time done and still do together.

Cheers to Amy and Doug!
