That number is real, and it is also nowhere near what you will pay — because Cabo resorts price the ceremony and the reception as two separate things, and the reception is charged per person. A $2,145 package for 50 guests is a $10,295 wedding once everyone eats. Here is the full arithmetic, built from what the resorts actually publish, with the tax and the fine print left in rather than quietly dropped.

The short answer

For 50 guests at a mainstream luxury all-inclusive in Los Cabos, budget roughly $13,500 to $24,000 all-in for the ceremony and reception. That is the wedding itself — not flights, not guest rooms, not extended photography.

The spread is wide because it depends entirely on which ceremony package and which reception tier you pair together. At Garza Blanca Los Cabos, which publishes both halves of the equation, the range runs from $10,295 to $18,155 before tax, or about $13,500 to $23,800 once tax and service are added. At Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos, the 50-guest Corazón package is published at $12,870.

Why Cabo prices a wedding in two halves

This is the single most important thing to understand before you compare any two quotes, and almost nobody explains it.

In Cancun and the Riviera Maya, the norm is one all-in package price covering a guest band — “$4,349 for 20 guests, $101 for each additional guest.” In Los Cabos, the common structure splits in two: a flat ceremony package fee, and a separate per-person reception charge for the dinner and open bar.

Additional guests are $140 each, children aged 5–12 are half price, and — a line worth circling — an additional guest who is not staying at the hotel costs $210. Tax, service charge, and the day of the week

Two adjustments apply to every number above, and to every number you will be quoted anywhere in Mexico.

Tax and service charge. Published wedding prices in Mexico are almost always pre-tax. Expect roughly 16% tax plus a 15% service charge to be added — about 31% on top. That is why the $10,295 build above is really closer to $13,500. When you are comparing two quotes, the first question is always whether the number includes tax and service, because one resort quoting gross and another quoting net will look like a $3,000 difference that does not exist.

The day of the week. Resort wedding pricing is tiered, and published rates are usually the midweek rate. At Hyatt Ziva Vallarta, for example, the same Lavish & Opulent package is $6,089 Monday to Thursday and $6,669 from Thursday noon through Sunday; the Luxury package moves from $13,553 to $14,222. Saturdays cost more everywhere. If your date is flexible, a Thursday wedding is one of the largest single savings available to you, and it costs you nothing in quality.

The season. The same pattern applies across the calendar — low season can be 10–15% cheaper than peak for an identical package. Cabo’s peak runs roughly November through May.

Cutting your guest list will not save what you think

This is the most common budgeting mistake we see, and the arithmetic above shows exactly why.

The ceremony package is a flat fee covering a band of guests — Gemstone covers up to 50, Opalo up to 100. Every guest you remove spreads that fixed cost across fewer people. Take the Gemstone package: at 20 guests it works out to $107 per head of ceremony cost; at 50 guests it is $43. The package did not get cheaper. Your per-guest cost got worse.

The effect is even stronger once room blocks enter the picture. A larger group books more rooms, and more rooms unlock concessions — reduced fees, upgrades, and in many cases a wedding package waived outright. Grand Fiesta Americana, for instance, publishes that its packages become complimentary when your group contracts a set number of room nights directly with the hotel. Grand Palladium Jamaica makes its entry-level package free for up to 25 guests.

None of this means invite people you do not want there. It means that trimming from 50 to 30 to save money often does not, and that a bigger wedding in the Caribbean is frequently cheaper per person than a small one. Before you cut, ask what your current list unlocks.

What is not in these numbers

The figures above cover the ceremony and the reception. These sit outside them:

• Flights and guest rooms. On a destination wedding your guests book and pay for their own travel and accommodation. Your job is to negotiate them a good group rate — which is where a planner earns their keep.
• Guests who are not staying at the resort. Grand Fiesta Americana charges $210 for a non-staying guest; Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana publishes a $165 wedding pass. “They will just come for the day” is not free.
• Outside vendors. Bringing your own photographer, DJ, or hair and makeup artist typically carries a fee — published examples run from $850 per service per day up to $1,500.
• A legal ceremony. Most packages quote a symbolic ceremony. A legally binding civil ceremony is a separate fee and separate paperwork.
• Décor, florals, entertainment and photography beyond what the package includes. This is where budgets genuinely run away, far more than guest count ever does.

The practical point: at 50 guests, every venue here works for your reception except the Pool Atrium. You are choosing on atmosphere — beach at sunset, rooftop under the stars, ballroom if you want climate control and a late night — not on capacity. That freedom disappears above about 120 guests, when the beach and the ballroom become your only real options. If you are near that line, pick the venue before you finalise the list.

How Cabo compares to the rest of Mexico and the Caribbean

Honestly? At 50 guests, Cabo’s split ceremony-plus-per-person model prices higher than the Caribbean’s all-in packages. Using published rates at the same guest count:

All figures pre-tax. If pure cost per guest is your deciding factor, the Caribbean wins and it is not close. But most couples choosing Cabo are not choosing on price — they are choosing the desert-meets-ocean landscape, the shorter flight from the West Coast, and a resort scene that skews more design-led and adults-oriented. That is a legitimate thing to pay for. Just go in knowing it is roughly a $100-per-guest premium over Jamaica.

Where the $65,000 Cabo wedding numbers come from

Search for Cabo wedding costs and you will hit figures like “$37,500 to $50,000 for 50 guests” or “$65,000 to $120,000 for a Saturday in peak season.” Those are not made up. They are answers to a different question.

They describe private villa and non-resort venue weddings, where you pay a venue exclusivity fee (commonly $3,000–$12,000), commit to a food and beverage minimum (often $15,000–$40,000 at a five-star property), and bring in every vendor separately — catering, rentals, staffing, lighting, the lot. That is a genuinely different product from an all-inclusive resort wedding, and it costs three to five times as much.

Cabo also has an unusually deep ultra-luxury bench, which pulls the averages up.
