Written by the WeddingPlan360 planning team. Prices below are from the resort groups’ own published package sheets, verified August 2026; programmes priced only by quote are identified as such.

The Dominican Republic is the strongest South Asian destination wedding market in the Caribbean right now, and it is not close: it holds both a resort with certified South Asian planners and 2,070-guest capacity and the region’s only fully published South Asian package ladder with real prices on it. If Mexico is the default, Punta Cana is the alternative that deserves a genuine look — especially for East Coast guest lists. Here is the honest map.

The two anchors, and what each publishes

1. Hyatt Ziva & Zilara Cap Cana — the scale option

The deepest South Asian programme in the country: certified South Asian wedding planners, customised three-day timelines, mandap and ceremonial décor, dhol and DJ coordination, vegetarian and non-vegetarian Indian catering, groom arrival by horse, and coordinators experienced in Hindu, Sikh and Muslim traditions — across a two-resort campus (family-friendly Ziva, adults-only Zilara) holding celebrations up to 2,070 guests, minutes from Punta Cana International. Pricing is by quote, normal at this tier. Our full breakdown: Cap Cana South Asian weddings, verified.

2. Kohinoor at Royalton Punta Cana and Royalton Bávaro — the published ladder

Royalton runs a dedicated South Asian wedding brand called Kohinoor, and unusually for this market it publishes the prices:

Package Price Guests Room-night minimum Event hours Each extra guest
Noor $14,739 up to 50 100 11 $130
Heera $20,899 up to 100 200 14 $130

Both tiers cover a two-hour welcome cocktail with open bar, a morning Vaatna, Haldi or Pithi on the beach, a Mehndi and Sangeet with henna artist and full buffet dinner, the ceremony with a four-post draped structure, jaimala and sound for the priest, and a private buffet reception with open bar. Children 4–12 are half price. Those are real, checkable numbers — which makes Kohinoor the honest yardstick for every quote you receive anywhere in the Caribbean.

Punta Cana vs Mexico for a South Asian wedding

  • Flights: Punta Cana is often the shorter, cheaper hop for East Coast and Toronto guest lists — and attendance follows airfare.
  • Published pricing: the DR has Kohinoor’s open ladder; Mexico’s equivalents are mostly quote-only. If your family wants to see numbers before committing, the DR makes that conversation easier.
  • Vendor depth: Cancun’s South Asian vendor scene (décor houses, dhol players, mehndi artists) is deeper. In the DR, more travels with you or comes through our vendor network — sourcing we do in house, at no charge.
  • Scale ceiling: Cap Cana’s 2,070 capacity is the largest dedicated South Asian programme in the Caribbean; in Mexico that tier belongs to Moon Palace. Both are on our true-cost comparison.

What we check before you sign anywhere in the DR

  • The room-night minimum — Kohinoor’s tiers carry 100 and 200 room-night minimums; your guest list has to genuinely support the tier you pick. Our room-block guide shows the arithmetic, and our contracted group rates carry the block.
  • Event-hour budgets — 11 or 14 hours across a multi-day celebration goes faster than couples expect; the run-of-show decides whether it fits.
  • Open-flame and beach-event rules per property for haldi and pheras.
  • Extra-guest math — $130 per additional guest is a published, fixed number; we model your realistic count against both tiers before recommending one.

Our planning is free to couples — resorts pay us — and we hold contracts with the DR properties directly. Book a free call and we will price Cap Cana and Kohinoor side by side for your dates.

Frequently asked questions

Which DR resort is best for a large South Asian wedding?

For scale and programme depth, Hyatt Ziva & Zilara Cap Cana — certified South Asian planners, three-day timelines and capacity to 2,070 across a family/adults-only twin campus.

What does a South Asian wedding in Punta Cana actually cost?

The published anchor is Royalton’s Kohinoor: $14,739 for up to 50 guests (Noor) or $20,899 for up to 100 (Heera), each $130 per extra guest, with multi-event inclusions. Quote-based programmes like Cap Cana’s are priced per event list — and should be judged against that yardstick.

Are there room minimums?

Kohinoor’s published tiers require 100 and 200 room-nights respectively — a real commitment that your guest list must support, and exactly the contract mechanics we manage for couples.

Punta Cana or Cancun?

East Coast guest list and a want for published prices: Punta Cana. Deepest vendor scene and the widest resort choice: Cancun and the Riviera Maya. We plan both and will tell you honestly which fits your list — the comparison lives in our true-cost guide.

A note on the prices shown here

Every rate on this page is published by the resort and is included to give you a rough idea of pricing only. Resort pricing changes without notice and varies by date, season, day of the week, guest count, room availability and exchange rate. Figures may also be quoted before tax and service charge.

Nothing on this page is a quote, an offer or a guarantee of availability. For a current, all-in figure for your date and guest count, book a free planning consultation and we will confirm the real numbers with the resort.
